Van Stone Signing Off At RadiOhio
• Radio pro Dave Van Stone is preparing to close the book on a 40-plus-year radio career, the last 19 as President & GM of RadiOhio Sports-Talk duo WBNS (97.1 The Fan) and WBNS-AM (1460 ESPN)/Columbus, OH and the Ohio News Network, it was announced that he would be retiring at the end of the year. Immediately thereafter, Todd Markiewicz, who currently doubles Station Manager and Director of Sales, will be promoted to VP/GM.
Van Stone (left) remarked, “These last 19 years working for RadiOhio have been tremendous. I want to thank the Wolfe family and [RadiOhio Chairman & CEO] Michael Fiorile for their confidence and support. Thanks as well to the outstanding, dedicated RadiOhio staff for their commitment to excellence and for ‘making great radio.’ It’s not every day you get to work with one of the best broadcast teams in the country. The timing is perfect, as we are fortunate to have Todd warming up in the bullpen.”
Mankiewicz (left) commented, “The opportunity to become the steward of these heritage Columbus radio and digital properties is just a thrill for me. Dave Van Stone’s leadership over the past 19 years has resulted in our company operating at an elevated level toward our goal of super-serving our listeners, our community and our employees. My job now is to make sure RadiOhio matches that excellence for years to come and I can’t imagine a better group of radio professionals to accept that challenge with than those already working within these walls.” Markiewicz joined RadiOhio in 2010 from iHeartMedia Charlotte. Prior to that, he worked for Cox Media Group in Orlando.
RAMP reached out to Van Stone, who we’ve known and respected since his glory days at the late, great KWSS/San Jose back in the day. When we inquired about his next chapter, Dave replied, “What’s next for me? After 19 years here, my wife Cindy has a 19-year-long ‘to-do’ list.” Your best wishes can be directed to Dave at Dave.VanStone@Radiohio.com.
