WCBS, KCBS Win Headliner Awards
• Entercom All-News stations, WCBS/New York and KCBS/San Francisco were recently honored with four 2018 National Headliner Awards by The Press Club of Atlantic City. The annual contest is one of the oldest and largest in the country that recognizes journalistic merit in the communications industry.
KCBS/San Francisco received the organization’s “Best in Show” award for its Breaking News coverage of the Wine Country Wildfires, and also received first place recognition among all local radio stations in the “Best Breaking News” or “Continuing Coverage Category of a Single News Event” for its coverage of the Wine Country Wildfires. KCBS also took home a third place award in the “Best Newscast” category among local radio stations for its KCBS Noon News coverage of the Wine Country Wildfires on Monday, October 9, the first full day of the fires. This marks the third time KCBS has received the competition’s highest honor and it’s the first time since 2001 — topping all of the winning network coverage of 2017’s biggest stories.
WCBS 880/New York received first place recognition in the “Radio Stations News Series” category for its “Breaking Point” series by Alex Silverman. The two-month-long multiplatform series looked into the worsening conditions in New York City’s Mass Transit System.
The National Headliners Awards have been presented by the Atlantic City Press Club since 1934, and are among the country’s most prestigious journalism awards, covering all media, from newspapers to podcasts. The radio awards are divided into 10 categories, five for local stations and five for networks.
