Shelly Dunn With Radio
• After nearly 30 years as co-host of San Diego’s popular Dave, Shelly & Chainsaw morning show, Shelly Dunn announced her retirement during last Friday’s show on Tegna-owned Variety Rock KFMB-FM (KFM-BFM). Her final broadcast is scheduled for Friday, July 27.
In a statement, Alberto Mier y Teran, President & GM of KFMB Stations told RAMP, “Shelly announced her retirement internally a few weeks ago. She has been a major part of the success of the DSC and KFM-BFM and we will miss her greatly, but respect her decision. We wish her nothing but health and happiness in the next stage of her life.”
The DSC show has been a part of the San Diego radio landscape for nearly three decades — including prior stops at KGB-FM and KIOZ (Rock 102). The show has been based at KFMB-FM for the past six years and is nearing the end of its current contract. Contrary to some questionable local newspaper coverage, Mier y Teran recently told RAMP that the company has been in negotiations to extend the DSC show, which includes hosts Dave Rickards and Cookie “Chainsaw” Randolph, along with Ruth 66, Chris Boyer and Emily Maguire.
Dunn’s on-air announcement was covered by conveniently located sister television station, KFMB-TV (News 8). The piece ended with a shot of Dunn symbolically driving over her alarm clock set to 4am.
