Marty Bishop: Male Model Of Stability
• We want to take a moment and recognize a truly remarkable radio accomplishment — congratulations to Marty Bishop, midday personality on Scripps’ AC KMXZ (94.9 MIXfm)/Tucson, who on July 11 celebrated his 30th anniversary with the station! Technically, Bishop has been with MIXfm longer than MIXfm has been MIXfm — we are told that when he started working there on July 11, 1988, MIX was known as “Cloud 95.” Bishop originally did mornings on the station (left) before former PD Bobby Rich moved him to middays… 28 years ago.
Reflecting on his amazing three-decade run, Bishop told RAMP, “When I was young, I loved those iconic deejays who stayed forever, becoming indelibly linked to their cities, connecting with generations of listeners. But the industry was changing. That kind of career seemed to be a thing of the past. Then one day…I didn’t get fired. And I kept not getting fired. I couldn’t believe it then, and I can barely believe it now.”
MIXfm PD Leslie Lois also took the time to share her own feelings about Bishop’s longevity, telling RAMP, “I have had the pleasure of working with Marty for over 19 years here in Tucson! And I know in any business — but especially in radio — 30 years at the same station is a rarity! I know his co-workers and Tucson are proud to call him our own!”
