Mary K: Free Agent
• RAMP has confirmed that veteran programmer “Mary K” Schmitt has exited Radio One Charlotte after 4 1/2 years. She had been programming Urban WQNC (92.7 The Block), Urban AC WOSF (105.3 RnB) and Inspirational WPZS (Praise 100.9). No replacement has been named yet.
Schmitt arrived in Charlotte in June 2014, coming off a stint as PD of SummitMedia Urban WJMZ (107.3 Jamz) and Rhythmic WHZT (Hot 98.1)/Greenville, SC. She previously spent 14 years with WBHJ (95.7 Jamz)/Birmingham as APD/MD/midday talent from 1999-2008 and PD from 2008 until 2013. Earlier career stops include five years with WJMH (102 Jamz)/Greensboro as well as Hot 101.5/Jacksonville and WJHM (102 Jamz)/Orlando.
In a farewell statement, Schmitt said, “I would like thank the amazing programming staff and General Manager Doug James for an incredible learning experience in Charlotte. Many thanks to Cathy Hughes, Alfred Liggins, David Kantor, Deon Levingston, Colby Colb, Hurricane Dave, Mark McCray and Jay Stevens for the awesome opportunity at Urban One/Radio One.
