Get Well, Kristen Gates!

• We are sending our best wishes to Kristen Gates, longtime morning co-host on iHeartMedia Country WUBL (94.9 The Bull)/Atlanta, who is home recovering after undergoing brain surgery last Monday to have a benign ping pong ball-sized tumor removed.

As reported by Rodney Ho of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Gates’ co-host Spencer Graves last week announced that Gates was taking a leave of absence, but didn’t give a reason. Gates said her family wanted to keep things quiet in case the surgery had some serious complications.

In order to clarify any misconceptions and put rumors to rest, Gates went on Facebook Live Monday morning to explain her medical situation — she said she had been experiencing terrible headaches for month and finally, on Friday, March 22, decided go to the ER and get a scan. Doctors discovered the benign tumor was lodged between her brain and skull. After undergoing successful surgery to have it removed, Gates spent a week in the hospital. After getting home, she thanked her family and friends as well as the medical staff. “I’m on the mend,” Gates said. “I am humbled. I feel so loved. I just can’t believe how loved I feel now. I think it’s important to stress to fight for yourself. And I always want my message, if you know there’s something wrong to go get the answers, even if they’re scary to get.”

Gates also showed off her scar and said she will be out for about a month to fully recuperate.
