WXRT Icon Terri Hemmert Steps Down July 9
• It was recently announced that, after 45 of fulltime service to Entercom Triple A WXRT/Chicago, beloved market legend Terri Hemmert was planning to step back from the 10am-1pm shift she has held down since 1992, while continuing to host Breakfast With The Beatles every Sunday morning and fill-in as necessary — including July 23 and August 31-September 6.
In a staff memo that was published by Chicago media journalist Robert Feder, WXRT OM/PD Greg Solk confirmed the date of Hemmert’s final midday show will be Tuesday, July 9, and announced the station’s new weekday on-air schedule. Solk said, “In my many decades in this business, I have never witnessed such an outpouring of love and appreciation for one of the greatest who has ever been behind a microphone, or more importantly for a truly caring and giving person who has spent most of her career giving back to the community that she loves so deeply.”
He added, “Luckily, XRT has an amazing deep bench of world-class personalities and music lovers. Terri’s full-time departure allows us the opportunity to stretch out some shows and give our other stars a bit more airtime.” That said, effective July 19, WXRT’s new weekday schedule looks like this — Lin Brehmer and Mary Dixon from 5:30-10am; Richard Milne from 10am-2:30pm; Marty Lennartz from 2:30-7pm; Ryan Arnold from 7-midnight and Emma Mac from midnight-5:30am.
In conclusion, Solk said, “We all love you Terri, enjoy this ride as much and as long as you care to. You will always be part of 93XRT and we all owe you a debt of gratitude for what you helped build all these years.”
