• This was an exceptionally challenging holiday week for longtime Hollywood Records’ promo pro David Perl and his wife, Lauren — as David recounts, Lauren was laid off from her position as Director of Finance at The Orchard / Sony last Monday, along with two others, and then on Tuesday, July 2, Perl’s New York-based position as Regional Director of Promotion at Disney Music Group was eliminated, along with four others across the Music Group. His last day will be July 26.
Perl had been with Hollywood for 23 1/2 years (and four management changes), preceded by stops at A&M Records and AIM Marketing. Highlights of his 30-year music industry career include successes with Soundgarden, Sheryl Crow, Blues Traveler, Gin Blossoms, Plain White T’s, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez and many others. Perl’s discovery of Breaking Benjamin, and their subsequent 2003 signing was a breakthrough from the promotion department to A&R.

• RAMP has confirmed that Nikki Thomas has exited as PD of Cumulus Country WIVK/Knoxville after nearly three years on the job. Thomas had returned to her hometown of Knoxville to take the reins of WIVK in August 2016 after nine years with sister KATM (Kat Country 103)/Modesto-Stockton, CA, the last five as PD. Prior to that, she worked for CBS Radio’s KWYE/Fresno and WKSF/Asheville, NC. Thomas is now seeking her next programming opportunity and can be contacted at nikkithomasradio@gmail.com.
