Harcourt Hits 2K @ 88.5FM

• Public, member-supported Southern California Triple A KCSN (88.5 FM)/Los Angeles next week celebrates a significant milestone in the city’s vibrant music scene — internationally known radio personality Nic Harcourt will celebrate his 2,000th show on 88.5 next Tuesday, Sept. 24 from 6-10am.

Harcourt, who has been described by some music writers as “the most influential DJ in America,” has interviewed more than 2,000 artists over the course of his career and has done mornings on 88.5 for the past seven years. Patrick Osburn, GM of 88.5, said, “Nic is truly a national treasure to the broadcast community, as well as Los Angeles, and CSUN is proud to have him starting off our day on the station.”

Harcourt remarked, “I’ve been so fortunate in my career. From my early days as a part-time overnight DJ at WDST/Woodstock, to a decade at KCRW, and the last seven years at KCSN (88.5 FM), my career has been about discovery and the passion for sharing that with the audience. Hitting 2,000 shows at KCSN is a milestone, and I’m so happy that the station has chosen to celebrate it with the audience.”

KCSN PD Marc “Mookie” Kaczor said, “We’re happy to celebrate the incredible legacy of Nic here at 88.5 FM. Not many DJs are as well respected in the music community. Not many jocks are as passionate as Nic Harcourt. I believe he’s up to about 7,000 shows so far in his career. That’s a lot of time behind the mic… we’re very happy the last 2,000 have been here, with more to come.” Harcourt added, “At the end of the day, any celebration like this is just as much about the audience as the host. I’ve been so lucky to have people follow me through the years, and not just in L.A. I still have people contact me every week who listened to me when I was getting my chops in upstate New York. It’s also important to acknowledge everyone I’ve ever worked alongside through my career — radio is a collaborative medium.”

88.5 is a combined effort of KCSN, which serves California State University, Northridge (CSUN), and KSBR, which serves Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, CA. The two stations began simulcasting as 88.5 FM in October 2017, linking the Los Angeles County and Orange County-based signals. [Photo credit Ryan Hunter]
