Condolences: Marty Greenberg

RAMP has learned that Marty Greenberg, a former executive with ABC Radio, Belo Broadcasting, Emmis and Duffy Broadcasting, passed away Tuesday, January 19. We were initially informed of Greenberg’s passing by Art Vuolo, who explained, “Marty Greenberg was a major player with ABC O&O stations back in an era when they were a very major player with their top stations being WABC/New York, KABC/Los Angeles, KGO/San Francisco, WLS/Chicago, WXYZ/Detroit, KQV/Pittsburgh and KXYZ/Houston. This was back in the days of ‘7 & 7 & 7,’ when a single company could only own seven radio, and seven TV stations plus seven newspapers.”

Greenberg’s longtime friend Ira Lipson posted the news of Greenberg’s passing on the WLS Musicradio Facebook page, saying, “[Marty] began his media career with ABC, and was a Director of Sales at WXYZ/Detroit and President of ABC’s FM Radio Station Division. While with ABC, Marty served for over six years as the VP/GM of WLS Radio. He also headed the Radio division of Belo Broadcasting in Dallas and served as the President of Emmis Broadcasting’s International Division. He also was the President, Chief Executive Officer and an equity partner in Duffy Broadcasting. He is survived by his wife Elin and many loving children and grandchildren.”
