Ariana Grande Joining ‘The Voice’
• Recording artist Ariana Grande is joining NBC’s The Voice as a coach for Season 21, coming this fall, replacing Nick Jonas and spinning around in her big red chair next to Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson and John Legend. The show is currently in the battle rounds of Season 20. Grande broke the news on social media Tuesday, and later issued a statement that read, “I’m so honored and excited to join The Voice family! I have been a huge fan of the show for such a long time. I can’t wait to go head-to-head with the incredible coaches, get to know these new artists and help to take their craft to the next level.”
Country star Shelton is the sole remaining original coach from The Voice‘s debut in 2011. Clarkson came aboard in 2014, and has assumed the first chair formally occupied by original coach Adam Levine, who was on the show for 16 seasons before announcing his departure in May 2019, ahead of Season 17. Nick Jonas signed on as a coach in Season 18, sat out Season 19 and is currently in the chair for Season 20. As Yahoo Entertainment notes, “Season 21 will mark Shelton, Legend and Clarkson’s sixth season together. The fourth chair has been a revolving door with Jonas and Shelton’s fiancée, Gwen Stefani, filling in.”
