That’s “MISTER” Emeritus, Thank You

• The RAMP crew would like to take this moment to salute Country radio legend Gerry McCracken, who officially “retired” last Friday as OM/PD/afternoon talent at Cumulus Country WJCL (Kix 96)/Savannah, GA, punctuating a successful 45-year radio career, and easing the cluster through its seamless transition to new OM/PD Don Brake.

But wait! McCracken’s not exactly goin’ fishin’ just yet — VP/Market Manager Eric Mastel announced that McCracken will staying on with the station in the newly-created part-time role of “PD Emeritus.” And yes, he even has the new business cards to match. “I honestly had to Google ‘Emeritus’ before saying yes,” McCracken tells RAMP. But seriously, he added, “I’m staying on part-time to help out where needed in Promotions, Production, anywhere I can be of help.”

The move makes perfect sense, as it’s in McCracken’s nature to help — as we reported last November, McCracken and Don Scott, PD of Classic Rock sister WIXV (I-95) were both honored by the State of Georgia with the state’s highest service award — the Outstanding Georgia Citizen Award for exemplary community service. Your best wishes can be sent directly to “Mr. Emeritus” at Gerry.McCracken@cumulus.com.
