Condolences: James Gilmore
• The Guaranty Broadcasting family, and the Baton Rouge, LA radio community are grieving the loss of market veteran James Gilmore, who passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 10 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Gilmore began his radio career at Top 40 WCGQ/Columbus, GA in 1990, and in 1999 moved to Baton Rouge to work for Guaranty Media, going on to work every shift at Country WTGE (100.7 The Tiger) at some point or another, most recently serving as MD and middays until taking medical retirement in June.
“James was a consummate professional,” says Guaranty Media General Manager Gordy Rush. “He loved the radio business, but his true passion was local music. His Made In Tiger Country show won numerous awards and will always be a part of his legacy. He was loved dearly by his team at Guaranty Media.” In a staff email, Guaranty President & CEO Flynn Foster said of Gilmore, “James was an incredible man who always looked at things from the positive side of life. He showed me and I hope you incredible dignity and courage as he battled his cancer. I can’t recall a time that he complained or said ‘why me.'”
Gilmore was the 2020 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement award from the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters, and, as you could probably tell by looking at him, he also played Santa Claus every Christmas and would send video messages as Santa to area kids. Gilmore is survived by daughter, Madison, son, Ruston and grandchildren, Aria Marie Gilmore, Cian James Gilmore, Tommy Masters IV and Faith-Ann Nicole Masters.
