The Non-Commvention Is Comming!
WXPN/Philadelphia will again host the 17th Annual Non-Commvention, the nation’s premier gathering of non-commercial, contemporary music radio stations and music industry representatives. The event runs from Wednesday, May 1 through Friday, May 19. Conference attendees will participate in meetings and enjoy awesome music showcases featuring a tasteful mix of talked-about newcomers and relevant veteran artists. A limited number of tickets for showcases are made available for sale to WXPN members.
This year’s highlights include two special Non-Comm XPN Free at Noon live concert broadcasts/webcasts on Thursday, May 18 featuring Nancy and Beth and The Pixies, and on Friday, May 19, starring ALA.NI and Paul Shaffer & The World’s Most Dangerous Band. There is also a live session and taping for the WXPN-produced, NPR-syndicated World Cafe on Thurs., May 18 — an industry-only event with Christian Scott Atunde Adjuah. Some of the other notable artists performing this year include Blondie, Ani Di Franco, Gov’t Mule, Chicano Batman, The Pixies, Mondo Cozmo, The Mavericks, Dream Syndicate and Robert Cray & Hi Rhythm, to name just a few.
Conference sessions take place at WXPN from 9:15am to 3pm on Thursday, May 19 & Friday, May 20. Showcases start at 7pm all three nights at the adjacent World Cafe Live, both located at 3025 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, PA, 19104. All evening and XPN Free at Noon performances will be broadcast live at xpn.org and streamed live at VuHaus.com.
