KGO/SF Stunting Ahead Of Monday Flip

• Looks like Cumulus is ending one era — and gambling on the start of a new one — at the company’s venerable Bay Area News-Talk outlet KGO 810/San Francisco, which has dropped the format and is currently stunting ahead of what is being promoted as “a new era” next Monday, Oct. 10.

All signs indicate the station is making the move toward the increasingly popular and potentially lucrative world of sports-betting, as the stunting includes songs mentioning money along with promos touting the move as “the biggest gamble in Bay Area radio history.”

A message on KGO home page (accompanied by this vintage photo of Amelia Earhart), says, simply, “Today we say goodbye to the legendary KGO. Over the last 80 years, KGO has been here for Bay area listeners covering and discussing all the news that has impacted our world and local communities. We thank you for your loyalty and for trusting KGO to be your source for information. We also want to sincerely thank all the talented men and women that worked so hard over the years to produce award-winning programming on KGO. On Monday, 810am begins a new era. We hope you will tune in.”
