Mike Luck, better known as loved as “Lucky” — one half of Rock Mornings With Craig Venn & Lucky on Durham Radio’s CKGE (94.9 The Rock)/Toronto has just realized a lifelong dream – he’s been called up to the majors, joining the NHL on Sportsnet broadcast team as a play-by-play announcer!
Luck, who has worked for Durham for 20 years, the last decade on the morning show, has called games for the OHL’s Oshawa Generals for 15 seasons, and based on that success, has now been tapped to call select national Ottawa Senators and Winnipeg Jets broadcasts on Sportsnet, including… wait for it… the legendary Hockey Night in Canada broadcast!
Upon hearing this amazing news, RAMP reached out to Lucky’s radio boss, 94.9 The Rock PD Doug Elliott, who told us, “Funny… when we paired Lucky with Craig a decade ago, Mike would always say his dream was to call hockey games for Hockey Night in Canada, and I’d always think, ‘Sure, and I wanna drum for the Foo Fighters, but that isn’t gonna happen.’ Boy, was I ever wrong! Lucky has moved up from calling the Ontario Hockey League to the NHL – THE BIG SHOW! BTW: I’m still waiting for the call from Dave…”
