Happy 30th, Robby Bridges!
• Last week Robby Bridges, VP of Programming and morning co-host at Press Communications’ Classic Rock WWZY/WBHX (107.1 The Boss)/Monmouth-Ocean, NJ reached a noteworthy career milestone: 30 years in commercial radio.
Bridges began his impressive career in March 1993 while still in grade school as a programming assistant and self-described “production dub monkey” at Oldies WWBB (B101)/Providence. While there, Bridges honed his skills, first doing Alternative rock and then Jazz at crosstown WELH and the first of three stints at WQGN (Q105)/New London, CT. At 18, Bridges joined Oldies WODS/Boston, followed by Top 40 WFHN (Fun 107)/New Bedford, MA, went on to do nights for a year at the legendary 92 PRO-FM/Providence, and then overnights and weekends simultaneously for WIOQ (Q102)/Philadelphia and Z100/New York.
In 2003, Bridges returned to Providence for a five-year run at Country WCTK (Cat Country 98.1) while also appearing on-air at WBMX (Mix 98.5)/Boston and WEBE 108/Bridgeport, CT. Bridges joined WEBE full-time in 2008, beginning a 10-year relationship with Cumulus Media. He eventually programmed WEBE 108, and, over the course of a decade, would serve as air talent/APD at WPLJ/New York, Director of FM Programming for Cumulus Detroit, PD of WFAS/Westchester, NY, did afternoons at Country WFMS/Indianapolis, nights on Westwood One’s Today’s Hits format, and guest hosted Backtrax USA. Bridges has also been a part of Scott Shannon‘s True Oldies Channel since 2006, mostly as an exclusive guest host.
It was at Cumulus AC WDVD/Detroit where Bridges began working with his longtime co-host (and now wife) Rochelle Gagnon, and Robby & Rochelle first debuted in PM drive. After leaving Cumulus for a stint as OM for Townsquare Media Northern New England and a return to Boston for Audacy, Robby & Rochelle moved to Traverse City, MI where he served as VP of Programming for MacDonald Garber Broadcasting, and he and Rochelle first did a morning show on Top 40 WKHQ. The couple arrived in New Jersey in fall 2021.
“I still love it,” Bridges said. “I’ve never lost the passion for radio… the only thing that’s changed is I was always the young kid in the room and now, not so often! I’ve been blessed to work with and be both mentored and coached by many of the most incredible people in our business and I couldn’t be more grateful and humbled at my run.
