Condolences: Gene Gates

• As we were wrapping up on Tuesday night we were shocked to see this post appear in our Facebook feed from Julie Gates, best known as half of the former longtime married morning duo Gene and Julie: “Hello all, this is Julie and [daughter] Des posting on Gene’s account. We are gutted to share that Gene took his life on June 15, 2023. This has been a heartbreaking loss for us, and we have needed time to process his death before posting anything publicly. The two of us are struggling and having an incredibly hard time entering a chapter of our life without him, but we wanted to share the news with all of you, as you deserve to know.”

Gene and Julie Gates met in 1995 and embarked on a personal and professional journey that led them to KIOI and KZQZ/San Francisco, KZLA/Los Angeles, WLTM/Atlanta, KBFB/Dallas and eight years at KVIL/Dallas until January of 2013. They most recently did mornings on Capitol Broadcasting AC WRAL (Mix 101.5)/Raleigh until August 2016.
