WERS/Boston Launches ‘Salt Lick Sessions’
• Emerson College’s mighty 88.9 WERS/Boston has teamed up with the Salt Lick Incubator to create The Salt Lick Sessions, a new Thursday night radio series dedicated to highlighting diverse musical talent. The show is hosted by local musician Beane, who has appeared on American Idol and The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
The concept originated last year as a video series and YouTube channel created by the Salt Lick Incubator, a nonprofit that supports emerging talent. This new radio series offers candid portraits from the video series — with even more music from the artists, their influences, and their favorite finds.
“From our initial talks with the Salt Lick Incubator team, I knew we were collaborating on something special,” said WERS GM Howard Simpson. “Salt Lick Sessions provides a ‘fly on the wall’ opportunity to discover and experience rising talent as they ascend. Beane is phenomenal at coaxing casual conversations and the music? I’m excited about sharing this music!” WERS Brand Manager Ken West commented, “WERS’ mission includes enlightening Boston music fans with new music. The Salt Lick Sessions provides an intimate, deeper dive into the music and process of these emerging artists.”
The inaugural episode on Sept. 7 featured Tank & The Bangas; this Thursday’s show will spotlight Sammy Rae and the Friends, leading into upcoming appearances by Tiny Habits, Lizzy McAlpine, and other artists TBA. The Salt Lick Sessions airs Thursday nights at 9pm on WERS 88.9 FM and wers.org. Be there.
