Marcum Reaches GM Pinnacle At WSM/Nashville

• Ryman Hospitality’s iconic WSM-AM 650/Nashville, billed as “The Most Famed Country Music Station In the World,” has promoted 13-year station veteran Eric Marcum to the dual role of General Manager and Content Director, effective Monday, Sept. 11. He succeeds J. Patrick Tinnell, who is leaving for an opportunity outside of radio.

In his lofty new perch high atop the management pyramid, Marcum will oversee all WSM business operations, content and programming, advertising, sponsorship, production, streaming and syndication.

It’s been an amazing ride for Marcum, a graduate of Purdue University with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Sound Design and Technology, who has spent his entire radio career with WSM, starting as a part-time board op in 2010 and gradually working his way up through the system, gaining valuable experience in promotions, sales and programming. In 2020, he made the transition to the Opry Entertainment Group production team.

Marcum most recently served as Producer of WSM’s morning show, Coffee, Country, and Cody, anchored by the legendary Bill Cody, and the search for his successor in that role is now underway. Marcum will continue to host the station’s Americana-themed specialty show, Route 650, Saturdays from 5-6pm.

Reflecting on his journey at WSM, Marcum said, “Having worked in nearly every aspect of WSM Radio over my years with the company, it gives me great pride to fully utilize that experience alongside this incredible team. I’m excited to develop new and creative ways to share our story and the history of Country music, as WSM reaches more people than ever before through an expanded digital footprint.” Your best wishes can be sent to Marcum at Eric@wsmradio.com.
