WOMC Soups Up Mornings With Campbell
• Audacy Classic Hits 104.3 WOMC/Detroit welcomes Ben Campbell as its new morning show co-host. Campbell will plug in across from JoAnne Purtan and Jason Raithel on the newly rebranded Joanne, Jason and Ben, weekdays from 6-10am ET, filling the sizeable void left by the December retirement of longtime WOMC morning co-host Jim “JJ” Johnson.
“We’re delighted to welcome Ben to WOMC and look forward to him teaming up with JoAnne and Jason,” said Tim Roberts, Audacy Country Format VP and Brand Manager of WOMC. “We’re sure listeners will quickly see Ben as a welcome addition to their morning routines.”
Campbell spent the past 15 years as morning co-host on iHeartMedia Country KNIX/Phoenix until last April, when he was caught up in a round of corporate budget cuts. Campbell started his radio career doing weekend overnights at WIVK/Knoxville, going on to co-host mornings at WWYC/Lexington, KY in 1994. Campbell moved to KMLE/Phoenix in 1996, and two years later won a CMA Award for Major Market Personality of the Year. In 2002, Campbell joined WMZQ/Washington, DC, and also hosted Ben & Brian’s Big Top 20 Countdown, which was nationally syndicated on 100+ stations. After joining KNIX in 2007, Campbell was named ACM Major Market Personality of the Year in 2009 and CMA Major Market Personality of the Year in 2015.
“I’m super excited to join JoAnne and Jason and the WOMC morning show,” said Campbell. “WOMC is an iconic brand in Detroit, playing my favorite music, and working with Debbie Kenyon and Tim Roberts is a perfect winning environment.”
