Remembering Wanda Smith
• Over the weekend we learned of the passing of longtime Atlanta radio veteran and comedienne Wanda Smith, best known and loved for her lengthy stretch in mornings on Audacy Urban WVEE (V-103) — she was Frank Ski‘s co-host from 1997-2012, followed by a four-year stretch alongside Ryan Cameron, and opposite Frank Ski again from 2018 until early 2019. Smith died Saturday, Oct. 12 — the day after her 58th birthday
The sad news was broken by Audacy Atlanta SVP/Market Manager Rick Caffey in an Instagram post that reads: “Our hearts are weighing heavier today as we grieve the loss of our beloved Wanda Smith, someone who always made us smile and who was a big part of V-103 for years. We extend our deepest prayers and condolences to her family.”
The post continues: “In her role at V-103, dating back to 1997, Wanda Smith brought so much joy and care servicing the Atlanta community. Wanda’s impact touched lives beyond making us laugh… Many times, she championed efforts behind the scenes to make a difference in the lives of those who were without.
According to WSB-TV, Smith also started the organization Girls Stand Together, Inc., and appeared in the films Madea Goes to Jail, Madea’s Witness Protection, and The Drone That Saved Christmas.
In closing, Caffey’s post reads: “Rest in peace Wanda, as you take your place amongst the stars. We Will Miss You.” Smith is survived by her husband, LaMorris Sellers, and their three children. [Photo credit: Getty/Moses Robinson]
