NPR Taps Shaylor As EP Of Morning Edition
• NPR has named Jay Shaylor as Executive Producer of Morning Edition and companion podcast, Up First, starting March 3.
The announcement was shared with the newsroom staff in a memo from Eric Marrapodi, VP for News Programming, calling Shaylor “a strong editorial leader and a gifted audience-first producer. He joins NPR after an award-winning career leading some of the nation’s premier broadcasts.” Those roles include Executive Producer for The CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell, Executive Producer for The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer on CNN, and he was the overnight Sr. Producer for Good Morning America. Most recently, Shaylor has been doing strategic media consulting for news networks.
Marrapodi noted, “The hiring committee was impressed with Jay’s audience-focused approach and how he built esprit de corps among the teams he led.”
Shaylor remarked, “At a time when our country is divided and the truth seems up for debate, Morning Editionremains a light in the darkness. For more than 45 years, the Morning Edition team has helped set the agenda for the day — informing, engaging and delighting listeners fairly and accurately. I’m excited to be joining this iconic broadcast and its companion podcast, Up First, at this critical moment, helping the team to report the news that matters to our listeners without fear or favor.”
Marrapodi added, “I’d also like to recognize Kelley Dickens for the great job she has done serving as our Interim EP. We are happy to report she will remain a key part of our leadership team as the Deputy Executive Producer for ME.”
