Keeping It Together, On-Air & Off
Let’s face it — going through a break-up and divorce is one of the most challenging personal situations for any human under what would be loosely classified as “normal” circumstances… now imagine a couple who met while working at a radio station, fell in love, got married, had children, and do an afternoon radio show together? Such is the very public situation now being faced by Stephen and Tierza Guggenheimer, a.k.a. Stevie G & TPot, longtime hosts of The Afternoon Swirl on Entercom Top 40 WEZB (B97)/New Orleans, who bravely shared the news of their personal break-up, while vowing to continue their successful on-air partnership. Their on-air announcement is posted online.
Both personalities enjoy a lengthy history with B97 — TPot has been with the station for 18 years; Stevie is coming up on his 17th anniversary, and their on-air partnership is now 11 years old. Pictured, that’s TPot, Stevie, their younger daughter Chloe and oldest daughter Natty.
B97 PD Tom “Jammer” Naylor said, “Stevie G & TPot are loved in New Orleans. They’ve been an integral part of B97 for more than a decade, and we intend for them to be The Afternoon Swirl for long time to come.” He continued, “Social media makes it difficult for families to have privacy as they adjust to major changes before that news goes public. It’s even more difficult when the couple is a household name in a community.” RAMP later spoke to Naylor, who reaffirmed his support for Stevie G & TPot, saying, “I stand behind them 100 percent and I look forward to nothing but great things in the future from both of them.”
The Swirl‘s message to their listeners is simply one of thanks for having been a part of their family for almost 11 years. Stevie G & TPot are no longer a couple at home, but are partners here at B97 and intend to always be. TPot commented, “I think our B97 family can relate. We love each other. We’ll always love each other; we were best friends before we married. We’ll be friends when we’re not. And, most of all, Stevie is Natty & Chloe’s dad… and I’m their mom. That will always come first. Out of respect for our kids and our families, we hope you will support us, and help us love our way through.”
