SummitMedia Undergoes A Reduction In Force

• Corporate restructuring and that dreaded term “Reduction In Force” (RIF) has now affected SummitMedia, where RAMP hears as many as 16 employees were terminated last Friday. In the company’s Birmingham operations, we learned that Mike “Sandman” Sanders is out as PD/midday talent at heritage Country 104.7 WZZK, along with Creative Services Director Mike McKenzie, and Rick Aaron, pm drive personality on Classic Rock 106.9 WBPT.

Sanders (left) is a 30+ year industry pro who was named PD of WZZK in April 2024, coming from Midwest Communications’ WJXA (Mix 92.9)/Nashville as an on-air personality. Sanders earlier programmed Saga’s WVVR, WRND & WQEZ/Clarksville, TN, preceded by stops in Jacksonville, Charlotte, and Denver.

Sanders commented, “I’m embracing this change with positivity and excitement for what lies ahead! Reflecting on my time at WZZK, I’m filled with gratitude for the incredible listener experiences and record label connections I’ve made. Each moment has shaped my passion for the record industry, and I carry those lessons with me as I step into this new chapter.”

Sanders can now be contacted at sandersonair@gmail.com. If you or a colleague has been similarly downsized and would like your contact info shared in RAMP, please email me at Kevin@RAMP247.com.
