Slacker In Name Only
CBS Radio Top 40 WDZH (98.7 AMP Radio)/Detroit keeps it firmly in the family and promotes APD/MD/afternoon personality Ian “Slacker” Richards to the velvety-soft PD chair. That position had been manned by the multi-tasking Tim Roberts, VP of Programming of CBS Radio Detroit, who commented, “Ian has demonstrated over and over an in-depth knowledge of the Top 40 format, music and artists. He is also a natural leader, both on and off the air for our staff and the WDZH brand.”
Richards started his radio career in 2003 in Flint, MI as an intern at Townsquare Classic Rock WQUS and two years later crossed the hall to Rhythmic WRCL (Club 93.7) as MD and night jock. In 2010, while still working at WRCL, Richards started doing part-time at AMP Radio, and in March of 2012, he was called up to the majors permanently as AMP Radio’s fulltime MD/afternoon drive host. He was awarded APD stripes in October 2015.
Richards, who will continue to drive the Motor City home, exclaimed, “I’m excited to take WDZH to… the next level™… and grow as a programmer! I’d like to thank our Market Manager, Debbie Kenyon, and some of the best programmers in the industry who helped me get to where I am today including, Michael Martin, Tim Roberts, Erik Bradley, Tim Rainey and Clay Church.”
