Station Employee Killed In Freak Accident
Police rushed to the scene around 1:40pm and found a BMW sedan inside. The Biloxi Sun Herald reports that Elizabeth “Liz” Thornburg, 59, an office administrator, died at the scene, according to Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer.
Authorities said the car barreled off Seaway Road and hit Thornburg’s office near the front door, tearing through three offices before stopping about 40 feet inside. The photo shows the BMW being pulled out of the damaged building.
Three people were also hospitalized in stable condition, including the driver and a female passenger in the car with him. Gulfport Police Cmdr. Clayton Fulks said that the cause of the crash was unclear, but that no one had been charged by Friday afternoon. Switzer said the accident did not appear intentional, and authorities were investigating whether the sedan’s driver may have had a medical emergency. [Photo credit: Martha Sanchez / Sun Herald]
