Countdown To World College Radio Day ’25
The celebration features the annual WCRD 24-Hour Global Marathon, hosted by Live365, which kicks off Friday at midnight ET from UCC98.3 FM at University College Cork, Ireland, and will travel across time zones with contributions from stations in Costa Rica, India, Australia, the United States, Italy, Ghana, Malaysia, Spain, Mexico, and many more. Participation is open and free to all college radio stations worldwide.
Serving as President of World College Radio Day 2025 is Gabriel Menchero, GM of Frecuencia CEM at Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico, who remarked, “At a time when our world faces growing challenges, divisions, and injustices, the role of college radio is more essential than ever: to amplify plural voices, promote understanding, and provide a safe space where humanity is respected. We invite everyone to listen!”
World College Radio Day Founder Dr. Rob Quicke, Director of the School of Journalism & Mass Communications at Marshall University, reflects on its legacy, noting, “For fifteen years, World College Radio Day has united stations worldwide to amplify the voices that matter most — those of the people. On this special 15th anniversary, ‘Tune in to the People’ reminds us that every story counts, every voice is vital, and by truly listening, we build bridges of respect and understanding across borders.”
Listeners can hear the worldwide broadcast exclusively on Live365.com, which has partnered with WCRD by donating resources to power the marathon. “Powering the World College Radio Day marathon is an event that aligns perfectly with our core mission to empower diverse audio voices,” says Jason Stoddard, President of Live365. “We believe in the importance of independent broadcasting, and college radio is the incubator for the next generation of talent. Providing a stable, global platform for these students is a privilege, and we can’t wait for the world to tune in and hear what they’ve created.”
