LA Lloyd On The Loose

• Austin’s own LA Lloyd reached out to let us know that he has exited his dual role as Program Director and afternoon co-host for Waterloo Media Mainstream Rock 93.7 KLBJ after 13 years due to those all-too-familiar budget cuts.

After early stops in Myrtle Beach, Oxnard-Ventura and Norfolk, Lloyd settled into his radio home in Austin in 1995 when he joined then-brand new Alternative KROX (101X) as APD/afternoons. He went on to program KPEZ/Austin and 99.5 KISS/San Antonio before joining KLBJ, where he was named PD in Dec. 2012.

Lloyd posted the news of his departure in an extensive Facebook post that reads, in part, “I am going to enjoy a little downtime to rest, pray and contemplate my future path. I will be exploring all options. as it’s been many years since I have had the opportunity to do so.”

The good news is, Lloyd will continue to host his Compass Media-syndicated LA Lloyd Rock 30, which celebrated 25th anniversary on July 4th of this year. The show has 55 current affiliates (including KLBJ, which will continue to air the show Saturdays from 9pm-mid). Lloyd can be contacted at lalloyd1@rock30.com, and he adds, “If you don’t have my phone number, just DM me.”
