Hamand Ready To ‘Change The Channel’

• After a successful five-decade radio career, Cumulus VP of Programming Operations Doug Hamand announced he will be retiring at the end of this month.

Hamand shared his big news in a Facebook post that begins, appropriately, “I’ve had a ball.” He added, “It’s hard to believe that when I started 48 years ago, this day would ever come — but here we are. I’m excited to share that I will be retiring at the end of June. After 21 years with Jacor/Clear Channel/iHeart — where I had the opportunity to serve in a variety of programming leadership roles, including a long run in Tampa/St. Petersburg — and the past 10½ years with Cumulus as Vice President of Programming Operations, it’s time for me to change the channel.”

Hamand’s post continues, “Along the way, I’ve been incredibly fortunate to work with some of the most talented, creative, and driven people in this business. Radio has given me more than I ever could have imagined when this journey began nearly five decades ago. But now, while my grandchildren are still at that age where they actually want to spend time with me, it’s time to put family first. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this ride — it’s meant a great deal to me.”
