KFH/Wichita Reaches Century Mark

• Audacy Sports-Talk KFH-AM/FM (KFH Radio)/Wichita, KS — the oldest commercially licensed radio station in the state is proud to celebrate 100 years of service this week.

KFH Radio, originally known as WEAH, was launched on May 26, 1922 for the purpose of broadcasting crop and market reports. It was also the first radio station in Kansas to add FM to its broadcasts and to originate a network broadcast that was carried nationwide.

KFH Radio kicks off its 100th anniversary celebration by welcoming some very special guests, including Wichita Mayor Brandon Whipple, Melodee Eby, the daughter of the late former PD Larry Stanley, and former KFH personality Charles Frodsham, among others. The station will also air some classic audio clips, including its coverage of World War II, Wichita State University athletics, national attention from Orson Welles‘ 1938 War of the Worlds broadcast that aired on the station, and more. KFH will also pay homage to the past through a historical content series posted on its Facebook page.

The State of Kansas has declared Thursday, May 26 as “KFH Day,” recognizing the station’s place in Wichita history and the role it plays in the community. The city of Wichita and Sedgwick County will also issue proclamations to recognize the station’s 100-year anniversary. The Sedgwick County Historical Museum will also feature an exhibit to highlight KFH Radio. That same day, KFH Radio will help induct the late Larry Stanley, the station’s first Sports Director from 1939-1949 into the Wichita Sports Hall of Fame.

“As the oldest radio station in Kansas, KFH Radio is very much a key piece of a fabric of this region and the city of Wichita,” said Jackie Wise, SVP/Market Manager, Audacy Wichita. “We’re honored to have been able to carry that baton for 100 years now, serving our community in key moments throughout history. We’re proud of the role we play in Wichita and look forward to celebrating our centennial anniversary alongside our loyal listeners.”
