So Ugly It’s Adorable

Q: What is gassy, drooling, 125 pounds and a freshly minted superstar? A: Martha, the Neapolitan Mastiff that was just crowned the 2017 World’s Ugliest Dog! Once again, the syndicated Bob & Sheri flew from their home base at WLNK (107.9 The Link)/Charlotte out to Petaluma, CA to emcee this international event that has been a mainstay in that city since 1962 and draws press coverage from around the world, including Good Morning America, the Today show and People magazine. That’s Bob and Sheri with Martha.

This year’s crop of questionable-looking canines featured all of the attributes that make this competition great — crossed eyes, bowed legs, patchy hair, missing teeth, oversized tongues, etc. One of the dogs was a balding, portly, snaggle-toothed mutt that crossed the pond all the way from Wales! This event has grown every year, becoming an international Social Media phenomenon, complete with its own Snapchat story, and the best part is, The World’s Ugliest Dog contest benefits animal rescue efforts.

In addition to emceeing the competition, Bob & Sheri also offered listeners a behind the-scenes peek at the dogs via Facebook Live. As veteran judge Brian Sobel said, “It just wouldn’t be the ‘World’s Ugliest Dog’ without Bob & Sheri.” Um, we assume he meant that as a compliment…
