Almost Cliff Burton Day!

• This Saturday, Feb. 10 has been officially declared “Cliff Burton Day” by the Board of Supervisors of Alameda County, CA. This proclamation honors the memory of Cliff Burton, Metallica’s late, legendary bassist, who was born in Castro Valley, CA. Burton joined the band in December 1982 and performed on their first three studio albums — Kill ‘Em All, Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets. Tragically, he was killed in a tour bus accident on September 27, 1986.

Cumulus Rock KSAN (107.7 The Bone)/San Francisco helped share the petition online, gaining additional support, and on Monday, February 5, (the day before the Board voted) KSAN morning duo Lamont and Tonelli spoke with Burton’s father, Ray Burton on-air. That conversation is posted online.

On Tuesday, Feb. 6, the measure passed, declaring this Saturday as “Cliff Burton Day” on what would have been Burton’s 56th birthday. On Saturday evening, KSAN will air a tribute to Cliff and Metallica. [Special thanks to Zakk!]
