Gehron Is Our Rockwell Guy
Radio great John Gehron has been deservedly selected as the recipient of the 2017 Rockwell Award by The Conclave, which this year celebrates 42 years of educating radio broadcasters. Gehron, currently the Chairman & COO of AccuRadio will be honored during The Conclave’s 42nd Summer Learning Conference, which runs July 26-28 at the Doubletree by Hilton, Minneapolis — Park Place. Gehron began his broadcasting career in 1970 in Philadelphia as PD of CBS Radio’s WCAU-FM (now WOGL), which was the first major market radio station to try the Oldies format. That success led to Gehron’s 1972 transfer to WCBS-FM/New York. Gehron later served as PD and GM of WLS-AM/Chicago, and he has held executive positions at American Radio Services, Infinity Broadcasting, Clear Channel Radio and Harpo Radio/XM Satellite Radio.
Gehron remarked, “What an honor to receive the Rockwell Award! I have great respect for the Conclave and how hard the board works to provide a true learning experience for broadcasters.” Conclave Board of Directors Chair Lori Lewis said, “The Rockwell Award honors those who have made a lasting impact on our storied industry. While I have my own inspirational John Gehron story, I’d like to hear all of the other John Gehron stories running through the radio hallways. We want capture those stories on video as we honor John.” If you have a favorite John Gehron story to share, please contact Lori at lori.lewis@cumulus.com.
