WJPZ Hits The Big 3-2

WJPZ 32nd BirthdayThe WJPZ Alumni Association, which unites the illustrious alumni of Syracuse University’s famous student-operated Top 40 station WJPZ (Z89), will hold its 32nd Annual Birthday Banquet on Saturday, March 4 at the Syracuse University Sheraton, conveniently located on campus. Nearly 100 alumni and students will attend this annual celebration, which marks the 32nd year of WJPZ on the FM band. Stephen Donovan (Class of ’95), morning personality on WWLI (Lite Rock 105)/Providence will emcee the event, and Radio One SVP of Programming Content Jay Stevens will deliver the keynote address.

And there’s more — during the Banquet weekend, the WJPZ Alumni Association will induct its ninth class into the hallowed WJPZ Hall of Fame. Your 2017 inductees are: 1) Mark Humble (Class of ’85), now a music writer and composer, who was instrumental in migrating the station onto the FM dial, and 2) Phil LoCascio (Class of ’84), now at CBS Radio New York. As a student leader at WJPZ, LoCascio helped get the station onto stable footing while simultaneously serving as an on-air host and PD at WYYY/Syracuse. “WJPZ is known throughout the industry as The Greatest Media Classroom,” said Dena Giacobbe (Class of ’99), President of the WJPZ Alumni Association. “Once again, this weekend unites students, alumni, and leaders in the industry to prove why, celebrating the past, present, and future of WJPZ.”
