John Sterling Honored Yet Again
• Entercom proudly commends John Sterling, the legendary longtime radio voice of the New York Yankees on WFAN/New York and the Yankees Radio Network, who was the recipient of of the 2020 Governors’ Award, presented by the New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NY NATAS). The Governors’ Award, an honorary Emmy, celebrates Sterling’s remarkable 60th anniversary as a broadcaster and his 31 years as the radio voice of the New York Yankees.
“We’re proud to have iconic broadcaster John Sterling as a part of our Yankees Radio Network broadcast team and congratulate him for this distinguished honor,” said Mark Chernoff, SVP, Entercom New York. “From his unique home run calls to his encyclopedic knowledge of all things Yankees, our gameday broadcasts are better with John, and this award acknowledges his invaluable contributions to the industry.”
Sterling commented, “Whenever you get an award, it’s wonderful. But when you get an award from your peers, it’s even better. I’m very humbled and appreciative to be the recipient of the 2020 Governors’ Award. I’m thankful to the board for their recognition of my longtime work with the New York Yankees, which is nothing short of a labor of love for me.”
Sterling has served as the radio voice of the New York Yankees since 1989, with games airing on sister WCBS-AM from 2002 to 2013 and on WFAN since 2014. He also serves as host of the YES Network’s Yankeeography series and hosts Sterling on Sports, a nightly team commentary on WCBS-TV. Sterling has earned 12 Emmy Awards, including two for Yankeeography.
