Maine Broadcasters HOF Adds Six

• Six notable Maine broadcasters were inducted into the Maine Association of Broadcasters (MAB) Hall of Fame last Saturday during the MAB Annual Meeting and Awards Gala at the Sable Oaks Sheraton in South Portland. Over 250 people were in attendance, many also receiving awards for News, Programming and Community service. “Due to the pandemic, we were unable to have our annual get-together, the last one being in 2019,” said Tim Moore, President/CEO of the MAB, adding, “There was a lot of pent-up demand to see our colleagues and celebrate our profession!” 

The six honorees also included the three 2021 inductees, who were unable to be honored before their peers: Cindy Williams — former News Anchor at WCSH-TV/Portland; “Mighty” John Marshall — longtime Maine air personality, most notably working for Stephen King‘s stations in Bangor; and “Altitude” Lou McNally — longtime meteorologist and radio/television personality, and the recipient of the “Suzanne Goucher Broadcast Achievement Award” — which carries automatic induction into the MAB Hall of Fame.

The 2023 honorees are: Suzanne Goucher — President/CEO of the MAB for 28 years, who suddenly passed away in 2022 — inducted posthumously; Dale Arnold — Well-known New England sportscaster, who started his career in Maine and is the only broadcaster who did play-by-play for all five Boston pro sports teams; and Jon Shannon — 2023 Recipient of the “Suzanne Goucher Broadcast Achievement Award,” Shannon has decades of experience in radio and is currently the morning personality at Saga Country WPOR-FM/Portland.

In addition to the Hall of Fame, the following radio stations & personalities were winners at the MAB News & Creative Awards: Station Of The Year — WBLM-FM/Portland; • Commitment To Community, Radio — WKSQ-FM/Bangor, “Christmas Is For Kids”Best Newscast, Radio — WGAN-AM/FM/PortlandBest Radio Personality — Jadd Naamani, WJBQ-FM/PortlandBest Morning Show/Team, Radio — HOM Mornings with Lori & Jeff, WHOM-FM/PortlandSports Play-By-Play, Radio — WBQX-FMPublic Service Spot/Campaign, Radio — WFNK-FM/Portland, “Frank Cares For Kids Radiothon.”
