Meet Your ’23 Georgia Radio Legends

Friends of Georgia Radio, the non-profit organization dedicated to developing the next generation of innovators in audio through scholarships and mentoring, promoting innovation that ensures a healthy and vibrant industry that serves local communities and celebrates Georgia radio legends, announces the 2023 Class of Georgia Radio Legends. These six professionals, nominated by Friends of Georgia Radio members, make a positive difference in radio and audio arts, serve as leaders of their communities and organizations, and help to define radio’s future. This year’s honorees are:

Carol Blackmon, Retired Air Talent, WIGO, WVEE-FM & WAMJ/Atlanta; Syndicated Talk-show Host. current Host of The Georgia Lottery, and Member of the National Black Radio Hall of Fame.

Mark Kanov, retired, former Vice President & General Manager of WOXI-AM & FM and WSTR-FM/Atlanta.

Charles Kinney, current Director of Engineering & Technology, Cox Media Group Atlanta and Athens, GA.

Ken Woodfin, retired, 50-plus-year radio broadcaster and former owner of multiple stations in Columbus and Macon, GA, as well as stations in Alabama and Florida.

Alan Sneed, retired, former Programming Consultant, and former Program Director of WKLS (96 Rock)/Atlanta and ABC Radio.

Rick Caffey, SVP/Market Manager at Audacy Atlanta. Former BAG board member and cornerstone participant in the Radio Talent Institute

Friends of Georgia Radio will also recognize the late Gene Harden, owner of WTWA & WTHO/Thomson, GA, as its first Georgia Radio Pioneer.

“This is such a terrific group of professionals,” said Richard Warner, President, Friends of Georgia Radio. “Our panel of volunteer judges, who built their own solid careers in the industry, were impressed with the caliber of all 20 nominated and excited about the impact each honoree has made on our industry and our state.”

The annual Friends of Georgia Radio Banquet and Celebration, hosted by TNT’s Ernie Johnson, Jr., will be held on August 26 at the Olde Towne Athletic Club in Marietta, Ga. Tickets are available here.
