Tampa Supports Lawless Ice Business

In the wake of the devastating power of Hurricane Irma, over five million residents in the state of Florida lost power. As of Friday, there were still over 150,000 residents in the hard-hit Tampa Bay area surviving without electricity. To help those affected folks, the Cox Media Group stations in Tampa have been handing out free ice throughout the region, including the mother lode of ice distribution last Friday…

Accurately sensing that there was still a crucial need for ice and overall heat relief in the sweltering 90-plus-degree temps, CMG Tampa VP/Market Manager Keith “Mr. Freeze” Lawless, through the extreme generosity of Cox Media Group’s Corporate Office, arranged to have a whopping 24 pallets — that’s 4,200 bags of ice — delivered Friday by way of Kentucky!

All six CMG Tampa stations — WHPT (102.5 The Bone), WPOI (Hot 101.5), WSUN (97X), WXGL (107.3 The Eagle), WWRM (Magic 94.9) and WDUV banded together, and distributed over 25 tons for the week (20 of those on Friday alone) between locations in St. Petersburg and Tampa; providing temporary cooling relief for over 3,000 residents. That’s Lawless, (center), bookended by WWRM (Magic 94.9) morning host Danielle and APD/midday host Phoebe. [Special thanks to Mike Oliviero, Director of Promotions and Marketing for CMG Tampa]
