Concerts With A Heart
• How great is this? Local Media San Diego Alternative XTRA (91X)/San Diego is taking care of the families of local active military personnel by offering them free tickets to X-Fest 2017, the station’s annual summer concert happening Sunday, June 11. The show features ten bands on two stages “on the green” at the Qualcomm Stadium practice field — Phoenix, Empire of the Sun, Bob Moses, K.Flay, Missio, The Lemon Twigs, Sir Sly, Lo Moon, Creature Canyon and Lightning Cola.
In cooperation with San Diego Military Family Collaborative convened by SAY San Diego, a local 501(c)3 nonprofit, 91X will provide 500 X-Fest tickets to area military families. To receive tickets, military families are asked to sign up on the SDMFC website. “San Diego has such a strong military community, we see and appreciate the sacrifice the members and their families go through,” said Tommy Hough, 91X morning show host. “We hope free tickets to enjoy X-Fest will offer a bit of joy, relief and a day to remember.”
• For the past several years we have been proud to share the news of annual Nelarusky benefit concert, the brainchild of entrepreneur Lauren McClusky, daughter of Chicago promo icon Jeff McClusky. McClusky did her first benefit for Special Olympics Illinois (under its former title “McFest”) at the age of 17. The first two Nelarusky events were lower key affairs that featured bands from local Chicago high schools, and since then has grown to include nationally known artists in partnership with Lollapalooza.
McClusky’s 11th Annual Nelarusky Benefit Concert for Special Olympics, an Official Lollapalooza Aftershow, is now on the books for Tuesday, August 1 at Metro in Chicago, featuring headliner Jon Bellion, along with special guests MAX and Anthony Pavel. We expect this event to be even larger than last year’s show. Over the past decade Lauren has collectively raised over $250,000 to benefit Special Olympics.
