Condolences: Chris Steed Reynolds

The many friends and colleagues of Chris Steed Reynolds are still coming to grips with the shock of his sudden death over the weekend. Reynolds, 55, who had been OM of Townsquare Media’s Lubbock, TX cluster since August of this year, died early Saturday at UMC Emergency/Trauma Center in Lubbock. He had been experiencing shortness of breath and dizziness on Friday night and was transported to the hospital for tests. In what turned out to be his final Facebook post, at 7:57pm on Friday night, Reynolds, exhibiting his usual smartass sense of humor despite the seriousness of his situation, said, “I was having shortness of breath and serious dizziness at work. My co-workers called EMS and I was brought to UMC. They’ve run a bunch of tests and all of them look good. They want to keep me overnight for observation and to pad the bill. More tests in the morning. This is the worst hotel ever. I ordered a Jack and Coke at 4:30 and still haven’t gotten it. So I’ve finally gotten a room. It’s room 420. I laughed so hard I almost blew out my IV.”

Reynolds had most recently programmed WMGA (Magic 97.9)/Huntington, WV from 2011 until he was hired in Lubbock in August. His previous PD stops include WTWR (Tower 98.3)/Toledo, WFMK/Lansing, MI, KQXT/San Antonio, and KKBA/Corpus Christi, TX and in the early ’90s he was a jock at WNIC/Detroit.

RAMP reached out to Townsquare Media SVP of Programming Kurt Johnson, who told us, “Chris was just an exceptional person in so many ways. He loved his work and he was great at it. Chris was a mentor to many and a friend to many more. He did his job and lived his life with an always-present sense of humor and joy that we will all miss. I’m grateful that we got to work with him, and sad that it was much, much too short a time.” Reynolds’ Facebook page is absolutely jammed with messages from his many grief-stricken friends and former co-workers. Reynolds’ father does not use social media, and his family has requested that your notes of condolence be sent to him directly via U.S. Mail: Bill Steed, 21770 Quail Ridge North, Brownstown, MI 48192.
