Condolences: David DePew

• This one was described to us as “a solid punch to the gut” — Duke Wright’s Midwest Communications staff and family are deeply saddened to report the sudden passing of one of its true stars and a great friend — David “Louie” DePew, Production Director of the company’s Green Bay-Appleton, WI group and extremely valuable utility player, who died Monday, August 18 after suffering a brain aneurysm. He was 60 years old.

DePew enjoyed a lengthy and successful career in radio, the last 25 years spent with Midwest Communications in Green Bay-Appleton, WI in various roles, included morning drive and PD positions for several stations. More recently he served as Production Director for the six-brand cluster in Northeast Wisconsin. During his time on air, DePew was alternately known as “David Louis,” “Bubba DePew,” and, most affectionately, the name that stuck with him — simply, “Louie.”

MWC VP of Programming Jeff McCarthy said of DePew, “Louie loved music and knew it well… we all knew not to challenge him in music trivia. He was a wonderful, devoted and ‘extremely cool’ father who passed on his love of music to both of his kids.” McCarthy added, “Louie was the kind of person you looked forward to seeing every day. Always positive, smiling and a tremendous sounding board for ideas. Louie never had a bad day. That’s not to say he didn’t have bad things happen to him, but you could never tell. If you needed a good laugh, you would seek out Louie.” DePew is survived by his wife, Allison, daughter Jenni and son Jackson. His complete obituary is posted online.

• In true Louie fashion, he would want you to know there is now an opening for a Production Director in Green Bay-Appleton. Please send your materials to OM Jason Hillery at Jason.hillery@mwcradio.com.
