Condolences: Dick Ervasti
• It’s absolutely overwhelming to realize how many good people we have lost in recent days, including legendary Twin Cities-based radio veteran and voiceover talent Dick Ervasti, the onetime voice of the NFL on FOX and more than 50 major movie trailers, who died due to complications from a recent stroke. He was 66 years old.
A graduate of the prestigious Twin Cities’ broadcasting school, Brown College, Ervasti landed his first paying radio gig (nights to signoff) at KDLM-AM/Detroit Lakes, MN, before going on to work at KCLD/St. Cloud, MN, KVOX-AM/Fargo, WOW-AM/Omaha. By 1978 he was working for Bobby Hattrick at Doubleday’s KWK/St. Louis before returning to Minneapolis and KSTP-AM & FM and two stints at KEEY/Minneapolis. He later served as Production Director at the late WLOL/Minneapolis before relocating to Los Angeles to launch Super Radio Media Group. Ervasti was also the co-founder of Ervasti & Company Worldwide, a private investment firm.
Scott Jameson, Beasley VP of National Content and Director of Programming for Beasley Detroit, fondly recalls, “I worked with Dick as our V/O talent during my seven years at KQRS/Minneapolis. Doing V/O sessions with Dick was a blast — we would come up with imaging ideas on the fly, and he was always fun to talk with. He will be missed.” Ervasti is survived by his wife, Mary.
