WMMR Remembers ‘The Rabbi’

UPDATED: Funeral services will be held on Wednesday for Sean “The Rabbi” Tyszler, former longtime Music Director of WMMR/Philadelphia, who died after a long illness. He was only 44 years old.

Tyszler served as MD for WMMR under former owner Greater Media from 2003 until June 2016, when he was one of several staffers downsized during a round of corporate restructuring.

A tribute to “The Rockin’ Rabbi,” posted on the WMMR website reads, “We honor our friend Sean ‘Rabbi’ Tyszler, who recently passed after a long illness. He was the Music Director from 2003 to 2016 and remained a close member of the MMR family since then. He was easy to spot at rock shows around Philadelphia, always sporting his WMMR embroidered yarmulke. He championed young bands that had yet to make a name for themselves, as well as heavy hitters like Slayer, Lamb of God, and his absolute favorite, Metallica. We will always remember Rabbi’s kindness, unmatched work ethic, and passion for rock n’ roll.” Tyszler and his former wife Rachel have four children.

• Services for The Rabbi will be held at 12pm on Wednesday, June 16 at Sinai Chapels, 162-05 Horace Harding Expressway, Fresh Meadows, NY 11364.

• A GoFundMe account has been established to help Tyszler’s family through this difficult time.
