Condolences: Michael “Doc” Thompson
• Friends and fans of conservative talk radio host Michael “Doc” Thompson are still coming to grips with his tragic and untimely death on Tuesday afternoon when he was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Haltom City, TX. He was only 49 years old. According to an account in the Dallas News, eyewitnesses and crew of the Amtrak train said Thompson, of Bentonville, AR, was jogging along the tracks at about 3:45pm when he was hit by the passing train. A pair of wireless earbuds was found at the scene, but it was not clear whether Thompson had been wearing them, police said. On Wednesday, the day after Thompson’s death, listeners called in to Thompson’s MoJo 5.0 show and shared memories of him with co-hosts Ron Phillips and Brad Staggs.
Thompson launched the show last year after he left Glenn Beck’s TheBlaze radio. He lived with his family in Northwest Arkansas and reportedly commuted to work in the Dallas area on a regular basis. “Doc was one of the more gregarious guys I know,” Beck told the Dallas News. “He was the ultimate entrepreneur. He left us to start his own business. He loved new businesses and because of Doc, many businesses are flourishing because he would take them under his wings. He just always had a positive attitude and a can-do spirit, and we are devastated as a family and devastated for his family.”
Thompson leaves behind his wife, Yuna, and his three children, Tiger, Cubby and Wythe. At press time, a GoFundMe page to set up by Thompson’s Mojo 5.0 colleagues to help the Thompson family had exceeded $115,000, far surpassing the original $20,000 goal.
