Remembering John Garry
Garry, the father of veteran programmer/consultant Scott Lindy, is best known for his long and successful radio run in Pittsburgh, where he and partner Larry O’Brien anchored the popular O’Brien & Garry morning show on 1250 WTAE-AM and 96.1-WHTX FM for over 20 years.
Garry got his start in Flint, MI, but it was in Toledo, OH, at WTOD-AM and WSPD-AM, where he began his rise to fame as a nationally known disc jockey. His talent later landed him a spot in the line-up of the “WGH-AMGood Guys” at the iconic Norfolk Top 40 station in its heyday in the late ’60s. In 1972, after a stint in mornings on WIST-AM/Charlotte, Garry accepted an offer from WTAE-AM/Pittsburgh, where in 1975, he was teamed with fellow WTAE DJ and longtime friend and colleague, Larry O’Brien. And the rest, as they say, is radio history…
John Lindemulder is survived by his three sons — Eric Lindemulder (Nina Costales), Gregg Lindemulder, Scott Lindemulder (Karen Turner), Markie (Beth) Lindemulder, and former wife Janet (Keyer) Lindemulder. The family is planning a private celebration of life in the coming weeks and asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the ASPCA be made in the name of John Garry Lindemulder.
