• Longtime Emmis Chairman, CEO and Founder Jeff Smulyan should have no problem making ends meet for the foreseeable future, as the company has extended his contract through Feb. 28, 2022.
Details of the deal were laid out in an 8-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which revealed that Smulyan, who founded Emmis in 1980, will be paid $1,025,000 during the first year of his new contract, with $25,000 increases over the next three years, ending up at $1,100,000 for the fourth year. In the event that Smulyan’s contract extends again by additional one (1) year periods, the Base Salary for each such period shall be the previous Contract Year’s Base Salary, plus $25,000.
Oh, and Smulyan was paid a $1 million signing bonus and will receive, among other corporate perks, a $2,000 monthly car allowance and 25 days of paid vacation.
