Mason Signs Off From CBS Radio

Mason & HermanAfter a stellar radio career that spans 45 years, Mark Mason officially retired from CBS Radio yesterday. Since January of 2009 Mason had served as VP of Digital Media for CBS Radio’s New York cluster and Editor-in-Chief of CBSNewYork.com, the website for WCBS-TV, WLNY-TV, Sports-Talk WFAN-AM/FM and News duo WCBS-AM and WINS-AM.

Mason’s impressive media career also includes a 12-year stint as VP of News/Executive Editor for the legendary WINS (1010 WINS)/New York, PD of WFAN and WABC/New York, KDKA/Pittsburgh and GM of ESPN Radio Network, to name a few notable stops. That’s Mason on the right, during his retirement breakfast last week with the man who originally hired him at the mighty 1010 WINS/New York back in 1996 — CBS Radio COO Scott Herman.

Jim Ryan, SVP of Programming for CBS Radio New York shared his feelings about Mason’s retirement, as he told RAMP, “Mark had the office next to me, and after seven years he knows all my secrets with the paper-thin walls we have here. Mark is a true radio legend — he programmed 1010 WINS while I was at WLTW and we fought each other for every listener in New York. It broke my heart to see him call it quits.”
