Morning Show Pro ‘PJ’ Joins Meruelo Media

• Meruelo Media has acquired the talents of longtime Los Angeles morning radio programming pro Paul “PJ” Joseph in the newly created role of Director of Morning Programming and Sr. Content Producer, working with the company’s three L.A. morning shows on Rhythmic KPWR (Power 106), Classic Hip Hop KDAY and Latin Pop/Rhythm KLLI (Cali 93.9).

PJ (pictured) is a 25-year industry pro who has notably worked with Rick Dees, Ryan Seacrest, and most recently, Zach Sang. He also co-created and produced The Radio Music Awards that ran on ABC and NBC a few years back. Joseph’s hire was announced in a staff memo from Otto Padron, Pres./CEO of Meruelo Media that reads, in part, “Paul is an experienced brand specialist known for his leadership and creativity in morning programming, marketing, and talent development.” The memo continued, “Paul’s first priority and full focus will be dedicated to Power 106 Mornings and winning in that daypart. His additional duties will include working with the KDAY and Cali FM 93.9 morning teams to coach talent and optimize execution. Paul will also develop our in-house media training program that will cover morning programming workshops, talent development and coaching as well as other creative seminars. His extensive TV background will also be instrumental in the continued growth and development of our multimedia content strategy.”

Commenting on his unique new opportunity, Joseph said, “Power 106 is such an iconic and legendary radio station, not only in Los Angeles but the world and I’m honored to join this great group of broadcast leaders. I’m humbled by the confidence placed in me to lead morning programming on these legendary and exciting brands. The welcome by the staff has been amazing and I look forward to working with all these very special brands of the Meruelo Media family.”

• Joseph’s hire marks Meruelo’s second major talent acquisition in less than a week — on Tuesday, Feb. 16 the company announced the hire of former longtime Kevin & Bean co-host Kevin Ryder to co-host afternoon drive on KLOS/Los Angeles.
