Nyren To Run Cumulus Chicago

Cumulus Media has appointed veteran Windy City radio manager Marv Nyren as VP/Market Manager for the company’s four-station Chicago group — Alternative WKQX, Classic Rock WLUP (97.9 The Loop), News-Talk WLS-AM and Classic Hits WLS-FM. The move makes strategic sense, seeing as how Nyren is already well acquainted with the inner workings of The Loop and WKQX, having previously spent seven years as GM when they were still owned by Emmis.

Nyren segues from Chicago Public Media, where he had served as Vice President, Corporate Sponsorships for WBEZ-FM. Before that Nyren spent a few years as President/Regional Vice President for iHeartMedia’s 13 radio stations in Jacksonville, FL and Brunswick, GA. He also spent 13 years with Emmis as RVP/Market Manager for Chicago, Phoenix and Indianapolis.

Dave Milner, Executive Vice President, Operations for Cumulus Media said, “Marv brings a wealth of experience and drive to Cumulus Chicago. He is a smart, competitive operator focused on building strong cultures that support and empower the team to succeed.” Nyren commented, “As a Native Chicagoan, I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to be part of these legendary stations and strong team. Cumulus’ continued focus on improving its product, culture and revenue makes me very excited about the next chapter in my career.”
